The first full-length event has completed and the RDUgolf Tour has enjoyed Pine Hollow in Clayton, NC for the first time. On Saturday, March 6th 56 golfers took on one of the best hidden gems in the area with a layout that isn’t the longest, but can be sneaky difficult if you don’t leave yourself an approach from the correct angle.

The weather turned out fantastic, but a frost delay in the early-AM pushed back some of the beginning tee times, and holes 2-5 being a par-5, par-3, par-5, par-3 created a bottleneck starting from the groups before our event, but after that, we were cruising through the course.

Through the tough round, some people found victory. The winners are as follows:

1st place – Net: Scott VanderMeer with a +4, 73
2nd Place – Net: Melcher “Del” Smith with a +4, 75
1st Place – Gross: Evan Boyer with a +6, 77

Full results can be found here

I will be reaching out the them to claim their prizes!

We also had some optional games going on. $150 Closest to the Pin pot and $260 Skins pot:

CTP Winners:
Hole 5 (158 yard par-3): Craig Walton
Hole 13 (176 yard par-3): Scott VanderMeer

Skins – Gross: 3 skins were won across the group, of the players that opted in
Birdie on Hole 5 (158 yard par-3): Craig Walton
Birdie on Hole 10 (380, par-4): Eric Krautheimer
Birdie on Hole 12 (299, par-4): Evan Boyer

There were also 2 Skins that would have been won if the players had joined the pot: Patrick Creghan on 16 and Trent Menzer on 18. But as they say: “You gotta be in it, to win it”

Some fun stats from the course today across the field:
56 golfers with an average handicap of 9-10 has a Gross scoring average of 97.. again, those greens were TOUGH!! The Front and Back 9’s were pretty even while averaging 13.5 and 13.1 over par.

The easiest hole was the par-4 6th, which only played 0.85 over par while 7 and 18 played the hardest at 1.87 and 1.89 over par. And I will admit, I contributed to that high average by tripling 18

The field also saw:
0 Eagles
19 Birdies
174 Pars
317 Bogies
249 Doubles
212 Triples.

I am honestly astounded that no one rolled in an eagle on the reachable par-5 17th!

Out next event is coming up on March 20th, just south of Raleigh at Anderson Creek in Spring Lake, NC; I look forward to seeing many of you there!
